본 연구결과를 통해 올바른 건강행위를 실천할 수 있는 근거는 지식이며 이는 태도 및 중요성 인식과 관련이 있음을 확인할 수
있었다. 특히 노인의 건강한 성생활을 위해서는 화에 따른 남녀의 생리적 변화, 성기능의 변화에 대한 정확하고 구체적인 정보가 제공되어 노인 스스로가 성에 대한 긍정적인 태도를 가질 수 있도록 도와야 함을 알 수 있었다. 미래의 시설 노인의 증가를
예측한다면 다양한 영역에서 노인을 돌보는 사람들을 대상으로 노인의 성에 대한 이해를 높여 올바른 인식을 갖도록 해야 함을
물론 노인의 성에 대해 좀더 구체적이고 명확한 정보를 제공하고 상담해 줄 수 있는 능력을 갖춘 노인전문 간호사의 배출이
필요하다고 본다.
이상을 종합하여 다음과 같이 제언하고자 한다.
* 성 지식과 태도에서의 남녀 차이가 과거 남성 중심적이고 가부장적인 사회 풍토와 관련됨을 고려하여 양성 평등적 관점에서
남녀 노인의 특성을 반영한 성교육이나 성상담프로그램의 개발을 제언한다.
*시설 노인의 성에 대한 올바른 인식을 고취하고자 노인시설 종사자를 위한 성교육 프로그램 개발을 제언한다.
*지역사회 거주 노인 외에 시설에 거주하는 노인을 대상으로 성 지식, 태도에 관한 실증적 연구를 제언한다.

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to identify knowledge of, attitude toward, and the importance of, sexuality in the elderly.
Method: By convenience sampling, 152 elderly people aged 60 and over who registered at 3 elderly schools located in W city were selected. Knowledge and attitude toward sexuality were measured with ASKAS. Perceived importance toward sexuality was measured with an instrument developed by the investigator. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation.
Results: Elderly males, elderly couples, and elders perceiving themselves as healthy reported higher scores in knowledge on and the importance of sexuality. Elderly males, elders with higher education, and elders perceiving themselves as healthy showed a more acceptable attitude toward sexuality. The higher knowledge of sexuality, the more acceptable the sexuality. The higher knowledge of and more acceptable attitude toward sexuality, the higher significance of sexuality.
Conclusions: Sexuality is an important issue in elderly life. To improve knowledge, positive views of sexuality, recognition of its importance, education and consulting programs on sexuality need to be developed, reflecting characteristics of the elderly. These programs should be provided not only to the elderly but also to people caring for the elderly and their families.
